Joining an IBEW apprenticeship is an excellent way to being a career in the electrical trade.


Preparing for the IBEW Apprenticeship Aptitude Test

The aptitude test is a combination of Reading Comprehension and Mathematics skills. The IBEW’s preparatory course for the aptitude test can be found at electricprep.com . There is a fee for this course that is not refunded by this committee.

The Interview Process

Upon successfully passing the aptitude test, you are eligible to be interviewed by our Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. You may also find interview tips and resources at electricprep.com.

Selection

All eligible candidates are interviewed and ranked. Your ranking will have factors such as; past related work experience, past related training, military service, aptitude test score and general interview score.

Apprenticeship Program

Once selected to the Apprenticeship Program, you will be assigned to our signatory contractors to commence your On-the-Job Training or “OJT”. You will need 8200 hours of OJT, as well as 900 hours of classroom training, over a period of 5 years in order to become a Journeyman Wireman within the IBEW. Our school is a night school starting mid-September and ending in mid-April each year.
